Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to visit your home and conduct your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the area around your A/C to clear away branches and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the unit and prune back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Aramendia Plumbing, Heating and Air will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they perform your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Also, a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your A/C isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Aramendia Plumbing, Heating and Air today to make sure your air conditioning system is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable for the summer and ask about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
